Merv Wright, the elusive and livewire centre partner of Eric Robinson at Alexandria Rovers in the early 60s, teammate of Chelsea players in the Presidents Cup and senior grades at South Sydney who was later to become a legend playing for the Maitland Pumpkinpickers in the 60’s and 70’s, sadly passed away in his sleep overnight last Thursday.

We were lucky enough to have both Eric and Merv attend the Chelsea Reunion at Erko in October.

The funeral service for Merv will be held at the Maitland Sportsground at 11am Friday 4th December.

Josh Callinan has written a very nice article in the Maitland Mercury concerning Merv’s passing which has a great photo of Merv with a special jersey presented to him earlier this year at the link below.

Merv was one of many talented footballers and good blokes from the Aboriginal Community that I had the pleasure to know and play with at Alexandria Rovers.
