It is with the great sadness that Chelsea Old Mates has to advise the passing yesterday of one of the heart and soul people that has been the fabric of the Chelsea JRLFC over many, many years since he was a kid, Ian “The Kid” Phillips.

On a personal note I recall fondly Ian in my playing days in the early 70s attending my team’s training sessions to help with our tackling practice and his no nonsense competitive committment really rubbed off on us slightly younger blokes.

Ian and his dad Keith “Ringo” Phillips were the first 2 faces I recognized and laughed and reminisced with when I reconnected with Chelsea in 2004 at Pat O’Grady’s get together at the old Souths Leagues Club.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Karen and the rest of Ian’s family at this extremely sad time.

Details of Ian’s funeral will be posted here and on the Chelsea Old Mates Facebook page when they become available.

RIP a really Old Mate
