My Mate Neil Hayward

I first met Neil at Bourke Street High School in 1960 & were mates from when we first met.

Norm Pracey & Normie Woods were also in our class and we all played football for the school and from school football I went to Chelsea & played F Grade.

Neil & Norm Pracey followed me the next year & we all played E Grade together.

We played Presidents Cup & toured Darwin in 1965.

Neil married his childhood sweetheart, Glenda Vergona in 1964.

When their daughter Brooke was born they
asked me to be her Godfather and to this day she still calls me Uncle Frank.

Glenda, Kathy, Neil & I have had some fantastic holidays and we had some great times down the south coast and also skiing trips with our
kids.

In later years the four of us travelled to Hawaii Las Vegas, New York and L.A.

On one of our trips we ran
into Norm & Pam Hazzard in San Francisco.

Neil was a very successful businessman owning his own paper recycling business for many years; he also owned several race horses with his mates and as he liked a bet he got a great deal of enjoyment out of them.

It really pleases me to say our sons Adam & Gavin are best mates

Neil was like a brother to me and I miss his laugh and his funny sayings. Lots of times I was the only one who knew what he was talking about (except for Glenda).

Neil was killed while working on 29 October 2010, he was semi retired & had told me he would finish up in the following July.

Glenda, Brooke, Adam and Rachel, were with Neil right to the end. Stephen (Neil’s brother), & myself, Kathy, Gavin and Gina, were with them for support.

Neil is gone but he will never be forgotten.
