                    VALE — RON  “HANK”  MURPHY

We are sadden to report that Ron “Hank” Murphy aged 86 years old has passed away peacefully at his home in Wallerwang (near Lithgow), sometime during the the week of 16 July 2018. Garry , Ron’s son, advises that he had some concerns about his Dad during that week and upon visiting his home found his body in his bed.

This was a tragic end to a rewarding life of a fine man who was so respected and liked by all who knew him, especially by his Mates from his days with the Chelsea United Rugby Junior League Football Club and and the Chelsea Old Mates Group . In his younger days he was a very rugged uncompromising rugby league , playing in the front row. He played in the lower grades for the Parramatta “Eels” District Rugby League Football Club and he played for the South Sydney RL Club in the lower grades between 1952 – 53 and 1959 – 1962 ( 6 x reserve grade and 56 x 3rd grade)

plus in 1964 he played for Ryde – Eastwood  RL club in the Second Division. Hank played in the 1950’s for the talented senior grades at the Chelsea United Junior Rugby League Football Club and was a member of the victorious A Grade Club Teams in 1958-1959, which included Ray Burns ( Ron’s Cousin) , Greg Edwards, Bobby Hough and John “Bluey” Owens. All of these team mates are shocked and saddened by Ron’s passing away.

Away from the playing field, Ron from 1961-1991 had a distinguished career with the NSW Fire Brigade , as Number 2828 District Officer and served in Ryde, Gladesville, Beecroft, Headquarters, Parramatta and Stanmore Fire Stations.

We had the pleasure to see Ron in October,2017 when Garry brought him along to the Chelsea United Junior Rugby League Football Club / Chelsea Old Mates Reunion and he was able to see countless ex team mates from his playing days and recall the times they shared together.

Our deepest condolences are extended to Garry, his sister Karen and their Families.
