VALE – RON FATHERS
It is with sad regret that we advise that RON FATHERS sadly passed away on Sunday 30 December 2018 .
Funeral Notice: Relatives and friends of Ron are invited to attend his memorial, 1pm Wednesday 16th January at Jubilee International Church, 30 Victoria Street, Waverley.
Ron played for Chelsea United JRLF Club in the 1950’s , as indicated by the images below from The Rugby League News of the 22 August 1959 he played in the B Grade team at the Sydney Cricket Ground against Bondi . One can only imagine the excitement in the team as under 21 yrs old players , to be running out on the Sydney Cricket Ground .
NOTE: Chelsea 21 defeated Bondi 6.
The Chelsea United team on that day contained many players who went on to distinguished rugby league careers , including Bobby Hough, Leo Toohey, Kevin “Bilko” Roberts and Ken Kay .
